Merkel needs a vision for the mitigation process prior to Durban

January 15, 2012 admin News

From 28 November to 9 December 2011 will take place in Durban, South Africa, the 17th International climate conference Even in July 2011 said Chancellor Angela Merkel at the Petersberg Dialogue in Berlin for more than 40 ministers:What gave us the financial and economic crisis taught again, we should heed in other policy areas, namely that we need sustainable work, that we must not jump from topic to topic, but that we are the themes in the long term eye need to keep. This is certainly true for climate protection and tackling climate change.

That's probably true. It is not the only thing we can learn from the financial and economic crisis. Mandatory regulatory law enshrined guidelines are essential for the economy. A nuclear phase-out by a voluntary agreement with the nuclear industry for Merkel would become a laughing stock. A climate treaty must therefore – adopt mandatory limits for States and its oil and coal industries – as envisaged in the Kyoto Protocol. These must comply with the recommendations of the IPCC.

The nuclear phase and the energy systems in Germany may not be the end of Merkel's commitment to environmental issues. They should only be used at the beginning of a brave and consistent commitment to environmental protection – for the people and not for the company, as the energy-intensive industries! You should just outside Durban, the EU take on that path, and – we are waiting since 2007 – again locomotive of the international climate process. At the Petersberg Climate Dialogue II, it announced:

Ladies and Gentlemen, Germany as part of the European Union aims at a single legally binding instrument. We would also be willing to consider a second commitment period under the Kyoto Protocol. But of course we look both ways considerable difficulties. In any case, you can take away from Germany and also from Europe, that we are determined to move forward boldly.

This bold pioneering

we expect from Ms. Merkel! It could also represent the climate as an urgent need in our flagship project for the European Union disintegrated, giving a positive vision. Merkel and the EU should explore together with the island states, the countries of Africa, Brazil, South Africa and China and outlining a way that helps the climate to provide a positive perspective – with the U.S. without the U.S. or in Durban to Durban. Because the costs of inaction are high: Without an extension of the Kyoto Protocol, the oil and coal industry is also trying to attack European climate legislation

.The goal for

Merkel has outlined a vision during the Bonn Climate Dialogue II, when she said

“… if one accepts the two-degree target – then we see that we have a CO2 emission level of approximately two tonnes per capita than do global average. …

This goal is ambitious, even if we keep in mind the present situation. The United States has a per capita emission of about 20 tons, Germany has about ten tons, China is already well over four tons. This means that everyone has a huge task. But the model must be developed countries.
